Happy Birthday
Yesterday was my birthday. I have to admit I was kind of not looking forward to it. Not because I turned 33 but because I couldn't do all my usual fun birthday stuff. I love going to a local donut shop and buying their coconut donut for breakfast. Then my husband and I hit up some bars during the day and do some day drinking. At night, we either get together with friends or just hang out at home and order takeout. Sometimes we even go to Portland, Maine, for my birthday, which is a weekend filled with consumption and fun with friends!
This year my birthday happened to fall on day #20 of round #2 of Whole30. I know birthdays are the definition of an exception: they only happen once a year! However, I knew that losing weight was more important to me than disrupting 20 days worth of commitment, just to have a beer or a donut. Also, as of the morning of my 33rd birthday I have lost 7.3 pounds since the beginning of round #2 (02/19/18) and a grand total of 18.8 pounds since the beginning of round #1 of Whole30 (01/02/18). So, I ate my normal eggs and bacon for breakfast, my ground turkey "nachos" for lunch, and pulled pork from the Instapot for dinner. I also drank lots of seltzer water to help curb my desire to have a birthday beer.
When this round of Whole30 is over and even further down the road when I've reached my initial goal of losing 30 pounds, I'll look back on my birthday and think "If I can resist temptation/not give in to the excuse of celebrating my own birthday, I can get through anything!"
