Movies

When people hear that I'm doing Whole30 one of the first questions I get asked is "Isn't it hard to give up [insert food/drink item here]?". The thing people ask me about the most is alcohol, pizza, etc. The answer came to me pretty quickly. What is actually hard about Whole30 is not the literal food or beverages you give up; it is the habits associated with those food/drinks that are hard to give up.

For example, today I went to the movies. I absolutely love going to the theater early, buying a large popcorn and then heading to the bar and ordering a beer. This morning as I was getting ready I was actually feeling kind of disappointed that I was going to the movies and couldn't have my popcorn and beer "per tradition."

This is just another example of a bad habit that I need to break. I go to the movies because I love seeing movies. Popcorn and beer are just bad habits I've associated with going to the movies. So, in addition to eating a big lunch before leaving my house, I packed my water bottle and Trader Joe's Roasted Plantain Chips in my purse for during the movie.

Going to the movies is about seeing a good movie, not about putting bad food and drink into my body just because that's what I've always done.
