Day 1 - Meal 2
Today for Meal 2 (and this will also be my lunch for the whole week) I decided to make a BLT with a Whole30 twist. I used romaine lettuce, roma tomatoes, Pederson's bacon, Trader Joe's guacamole, and 85% lean organic ground beef. For my vegetable I baked butternut squash with some pepper for seasoning. I really love this lunch because (1) who doesn't love bacon, and (2) I rarely eat beef so this is a real treat for me.
Wegmans Organic 85% Lean Ground Beef Patties
We do most of our grocery shopping at Wegmans and I have to say they are really great in terms of variety and providing organic and Whole30 compliant products. This week I picked up their Organic 85% lean ground beef which are conveniently pre-portioned into 4 ounce patties. As you can see from the Ingredients the only ingredient is organic beef.
This was a real treat to find at Wegmans as the only other Whole30 bacon I had found was Wellshire Farms Paleo Bacon which was a bit more expensive (I only found it at Whole Foods) and twice as many calories per slice. I buy this bacon at Wegmans for $5.99 a package and usually pick up two or three packages at a time since we use it semi-frequently throughout the week and for breakfast on the weekends.
Trader Joe's Avocado's Number Guacamole To Go
This is another must-have item in my shopping cart every week. This Trader Joe's product is Whole30 compliant and comes in convenient pouches that are 100 calories each. Today I squirted half a package on top of my burger and sealed the rest up with a binder clip for my burger tomorrow.
Lastly I used romaine lettuce (since it is firm enough to act as a "bun") and roma tomatoes.
Is Kombucha Whole30 compliant?
My husband and I discovered GT's Kombucha and have fallen in love with their Lemonade flavor. When I was in the grocery store I quickly looked up "kombucha Whole30 compliant?" and got a complicated answer. Here is Whole30's stance on Kombucha and whether or not it is Whole30 compliant but the short answer is that if there are no sugars listed in the Ingredients then it is compliant. For those of you who want to know why there is even a question, it is because sugar is involved in the fermentation process but no sugar is present in the final product. Whole30 is my guide so since there is no sugar listed in the ingredients I treat myself to Kombucha on the weekends.
