Weekend Away From the Safety of my Own Kitchen

This weekend I went home to Maine to visit my best friend's newborn baby and to visit with my parents. Since I'm still on Whole30 I was a bit nervous leaving my kitchen and freshly stocked fridge behind, but I made it work! Before I left for Maine I packed a bag of food, to include plantain chips, guacamole, a package of andouille sausage, pork bites, and one of my leftover lunches from the week (turkey burger and broccoli). This would be enough food to get me through any times when I felt like snacking or had to supply my own meals. Also, since I'd be driving up Saturday around lunchtime, I also found a Chipotle to grab lunch at along the way.

The Chipotle in South Portland was like any other Chipotle but super busy. It was so busy I ended up eating in my car. However, I was really hungry at this point so I didn't care. I got to my best friends house, hung out for a while, then headed over to The Duck for dinner with them and some friends. I have to admit that when I first walked in I REALLY wanted a beer, but, I ordered about 4 seltzer waters instead. The menu was really great and had a lot of things that could be adapted to Whole30. I ended up ordering the Pan-Seared Duck, no mashed potatoes, double vegetables (brussels sprouts). It was delicious!

Sunday my parents wanted to take me to a newly opened pub/restaurant in my hometown that they like called Doolin's Pub. This menu was a bit harder to work with since almost everything was fried. They didn't even offer a side vegetable! But, I ended up ordering the hamburger, no bun, with a side salad instead of fries.

The point of all this is that I survived a whole weekend away from the safety of my home/kitchen/fridge and planned ahead of time of what I would do if I got hungry. I'm pretty proud of myself :-)
